A Gift for the New Year--Taxes To Be Lower!

Dear Medina County Residents,

The Auditor’s Office received tax rates from the State this week and the news was good! Taxes will be lower for approximately 95 percent of Medina County residents next year.

“Tax rates fell in all areas served by Medina County School Districts,” Medina County Auditor Michael Kovack said. “Except for Chatham Township which replaced their fire/EMS levy.” Residents served by Wayne County School Districts will see increased tax rates.

“I was very pleased by the actions of the Medina County District Library and our school districts, who looked to reduce their bond and emergency levies where they could,” Kovack said. “They all recognize the difficult economic times people are facing. These actions accounted for most of the decreases throughout the county.”

Many of the reductions will be small, but residents in Brunswick City will see their tax rates reduced by about $55 per year on a $100,000 house. Brunswick Hills Township and Hinckley Township residents in the Brunswick School District will see their taxes per $100,000 worth of value reduced about $33 per year.

Residents in the Black River School District will see their taxes fall by about $28 a year per $100,000 worth of valuation, which those in the Highland Local School District will see decreases of $20 to $24 annually per $100,000 worth of valuation. Residents in the Buckeye, Medina, Cloverleaf and Wadsworth School districts will see smaller decreases.

For 2010 the three highest taxing districts in the county will be Brunswick Hills Township-Brunswick City Schools, Montville Township-Medina City Schools and Lafayette Township-Medina City Schools. The three lowest taxing districts are Medina City-Buckeye Local Schools, Liverpool Township-Buckeye Local Schools and York Township-Buckeye Local Schools

Residents can see all the changes in tax rates by clicking on “2010 Tax Rates” near the top of this page.  It is anticipated that tax bills will be mailed in mid-January and be due sometime in mid-February. For further information, contact the Auditor’s Office at 330-725-9754.
